Manama :The Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council, chaired by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board, held its regular meeting in the presence of board members and a number of invitees.
The board reviewed the implementation schedule of decisions made in the previous meeting, then examined several reports on the performance of the higher education sector. It also discussed requests submitted by higher education institutions and issued the following decisions:
1. Requests for Establishing Academic Programmes
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to host a Master of Science in Data Science and Advanced Artificial Intelligence programme from the University of Liverpool, UK.
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to host a Master of Science in Building Information Modelling and Digital Transformation programme from the University of Liverpool, UK.
Approved Kingdom University’s request to offer a Master of Business Administration programme in Arabic.
Approved Kingdom University’s request to establish a Higher Diploma in Sports Law.
Approved the University of Technology Bahrain’s request to establish a Master of Real Estate Management and Investment.
Approved the American University of Bahrain’s request to establish a Doctorate in Business Administration.
Approved the University of Strathclyde – Bahrain’s request to host a Master of Science in International Management.
Approved the University of Strathclyde – Bahrain’s request to host a Master of Science in Finance.
Approved the University of Strathclyde – Bahrain’s request to host a Master of Science in Economics and Finance.
Approved the Applied Science University’s request to establish two tracks, Human Resource Management and Business Analytics, in the Bachelor of Business Administration programme.
Approved the Applied Science University’s request to establish a Master’s programme in Business Analytics.
Approved the Applied Science University’s request to establish a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration.
Approved the Applied Science University’s request to establish a Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting.
Approved Bahrain University College’s request to establish a Master of Arts in Digital Media and Communication.
2. Requests for Signing Memoranda of Cooperation
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with the University of Liverpool, UK, to host the Master of Science in Data Science and Advanced Artificial Intelligence programme.
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with the University of Liverpool, UK, to host the Master of Science in Building Information Modelling and Digital Transformation programme.
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with the Fashion Academy of Arts and Design in Italy.
Approved the Royal University for Women’s request to sign a memorandum of understanding with the University of Naples Federico II in Italy.
Approved the Gulf University’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with the University of Naples Federico II in Italy.
Approved the Gulf University’s request to renew its cooperation agreement with Ajman University in the UAE.
Approved the Gulf University’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with Szechenyi Istvan University in Hungary.
Approved the Gulf University’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with Times Higher Education in the UK.
Approved the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain’s request to renew its memorandum of understanding with the Children’s Hospital in Canada.
Approved the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain’s request to sign cooperation agreements with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
Approved the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain’s request to sign a memorandum of understanding with the University of Queensland in Australia.
Approved the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain’s request to sign a training agreement with the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
Approved the Applied Science University’s request to sign a cooperation agreement with the World Islamic Sciences and Education University in Jordan.
Approved the University of Technology Bahrain’s request to sign a memorandum of understanding with Universiti Malaysia Perlis in Malaysia.
Approved the Institute of Public Administration’s request to sign a memorandum of understanding with King’s College, UK, to host a Master’s programme in Leadership and Innovation.
3. Requests for Forming Boards of Trustees
Approved Gulf University’s request to reform its board of trustees.
Approved Kingdom University’s request to reform its board of trustees.
4. Requests for Appointments
Approved Ahlia University’s request to renew the appointment of Professor Mansoor Ahmed Hasan Alaali as its President.
Approved Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain’s request to renew the appointment of Professor Samir Abdul Karim Mustafa Al Atoum as its President.
Approved University of Technology Bahrain’s request to renew the appointment of Dr. Hassan Ali Al Mulla as its President.
Approved the American University of Bahrain’s request to appoint Dr. Wafa Abdulrahman Al Mansoori as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting University President.
The board decided not to approve several other requests due to failure to meet the required conditions and standards. It also postponed decisions on some requests for further study, including appointments of some university presidents and their deputies.
The board approved granting institutional accreditation for five years to the American University of Bahrain.
It also approved renewing institutional accreditation for five years for the following institutions:
University of Bahrain
Bahrain Polytechnic
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain
Ahlia University
Applied Science University
Royal University for Women
University of Technology Bahrain
Gulf University
Arab Open University
The board decided to extend institutional accreditation for six months for:
Kingdom University
Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance
Additionally, the board granted programme accreditation for five years to the Bachelor of Architecture programme offered by Kingdom University.
The board approved the updated operational plan for the Higher Education Council and was informed of the results of the review of higher education sector development indicators, as well as the periodic report on monitoring the implementation of the council’s operational plan initiatives.
