Manama : The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) proudly celebrated the graduation of the latest batch of students from its renowned “Speak Easy” program, which concluded on November 15, 2024. This two-month spoken English course, designed specifically for low-income workers, empowers participants with essential language skills and enhances their personal and professional growth.

The “Speak Easy” program has been a cornerstone of ILA’s community initiatives for the past 26 years. Launched to provide aspirational workers with the tools they need to improve their language proficiency and boost their confidence, the program has transformed the lives of thousands. By strengthening participants’ English skills, it opens doors to better job prospects, promotions, and improved livelihoods.

The graduation ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Ravi Singh, Second Secretary (Consular Wing) from the Embassy of India. His presence and inspiring words highlighted the significance of the program in strengthening the lives of those who often lack access to such educational opportunities. The ceremony was also attended by Ms. Tosin Arowojolu, an Executive Director with Maxwell Leadership Certified, and Dr. Shimily P, an English faculty member from the University of Bahrain, both of whom contributed immensely to the success of the program
The inauguration of this year’s classes took place on September 6, 2024, and classes were held twice a week. Under the dedicated guidance of skilled instructors, including Ms. Swasti, Dr. Ruby, Ms. Nisha, and Ms. Cecilia, the students diligently progressed toward their language goals. These teachers, driven by a passion for empowering others, ensured each student felt supported throughout the journey.

A remarkable highlight of this graduation ceremony was that the students themselves managed the event entirely in English, showcasing their newfound confidence and the efforts of both students and teachers. This year’s students confidently conducted the event. Their management of the ceremony demonstrated not only their mastery of language skills but also their growth in leadership and poise, reflecting the hard work and commitment of both the students and their passionate instructors.
Each participant underwent an initial interview process and was selected based on a minimum Senior School Certificate qualification. A nominal fee was charged for the entire program, which also included comprehensive reading materials. The course culminated in a graduation ceremony where the proud students received their certificates, marking a significant milestone in their journeys.

The Speak Easy program continues to be a powerful vehicle for change, equipping workers with language skills that can translate into meaningful career advancement, increased remuneration, and enhanced self-esteem. The Indian Ladies Association remains committed to empowering communities, and we look forward to continuing this legacy for years to come.
