Kuwait : The 68th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Trade Cooperation Committee convened today in Kuwait, chaired by Khalifa Abdullah Al Ajeel, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the State of Kuwait.
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, GCC Secretary General, emphasised that member states are working to achieve the visions and goals of the leaders of the GCC, by strengthening trade cooperation and removing barriers to increase intra GCC trade.
He noted that these efforts have opened wide opportunities across economic sectors and reinforced the GCC’s regional leadership in political, economic, and investment fields, ranking highly on international indicators.
Albudaiwi expressed appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, for supporting the GCC’s work and facilitating the meeting’s success.
He also emphasised the importance of addressing global economic challenges and accelerating the implementation of development projects. He cited 2023 trade figures, with intra-GCC trade exceeding 131 billion US dollars (a 3.3% increase), and total foreign merchandise trade reaching 1.5 trillion US dollars (a 4% increase), reflecting promising opportunities to enhance economic cooperation.
The Secretary General underlined the need to complete the GCC Common Market and Customs Union to further boost trade and support unified, resilient economies that positively impact the global economy.
