Kabul : At least 21 people from two families died in floods that swept through Farah province in western Afghanistan, according to Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qaniee on Tuesday.
Abdul Mateen Qani, Spokesman for the Interior Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said that women and children were among the victims, while five others were injured.
He added that the families were on a picnic in Kojar village in Pushtkoh district when heavy rain and a hailstorm struck them as they were climbing a mountain.
Afghanistan experiences devastating floods annually. Last year, floods in the north of the country killed 315 people and injured more than 1,600 others.
