Manama : The 22nd edition of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship will start tomorrow at Isa Bin Rashid Hall in Isa Sports City until July 16, under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA) and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).
The 16 teams participating in the championship were divided into four pools. Pool A includes Bahrain, Iran, Thailand and Tunisia; Pool B includes Poland, Bulgaria, Canada and India; Pool C includes Italy, Brazil, Egypt and Mexico; and Pool D includes Argentina, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the USA.
The first and second placeholders in each pool will be qualified for the second round. The results of the preliminary round will get the qualified teams to the quarterfinals.
Eight matches will be held tomorrow in the first round of the championship.
The Bahrain Volleyball Association Hall will host four matches. The first and second matches for Pool B, India and Poland will be held 11 am, and Canada and Bulgaria at 2 pm. The third and fourth matches for Pool A, Thailand and Iran will be at 5 pm, and Bahrain and Tunisia at 8 pm.
The Bahrain Table Tennis Club will host four matches as well. The first and second matches for Pool C, Italy and Mexico will be at 11 am, and Egypt and Brazil at 2 pm. The third and fourth matches for Pool D, USA and Argentina will be at 5 pm, and Belgium and the Czech at 8 pm.
All teams have trained in the two main championship halls as per the approved training schedule, according to international protocol.
