Manama : The Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, in the presence of Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Harram, Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training and Secretary of the Committee for Countering Extremism, Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering, hosted a workshop on public-private partnership in implementing targeted financial sanctions. The event was organised by the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF).
The workshop aimed to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise among stakeholders in the public and private sectors, highlighting best practices to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in applying targeted financial sanctions and addressing related challenges.
The event brought together a group of experts and specialists from member states, who delivered comprehensive presentations on combating terrorism financing and the financing of proliferation, mechanisms for understanding, identifying and assessing risks, and aspects of the international legal framework governing efforts to counter terrorism financing and proliferation, including United Nations resolutions and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.
The workshop also discussed mechanisms to enhance compliance and national coordination, in addition to reviewing operational and supervisory challenges and means to address them, to ensure the effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions and support national efforts to combat money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing.
