Praia : At least eight people were killed after flooding in Cape Verde overwhelmed Sao Vicente island, according to local authorities.
Heavy rains fell on the northern island on Monday morning, flooding roads and sweeping away vehicles and people.
The Cape Verde meteorological institute said Sao Vicente usually receives 116 millimeter’s of rain annually, but Ester Brito, an executive at the institute, said 193 millimeters fell within just five hours on Monday morning.
