This is the fourth time Bahrain is hosting the world championship, with the event being held under the patronage of the Supreme Council Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Bahrain were drawn in Pool A of the 2023 world championship, along with Tunisia, Thailand and Iran. The national team will take on Thailand on Saturday, before playing Iran in their last preliminary round match on Sunday.
The national team conducted a training camp in Slovenia last April, during which it plated Austria, Croatia and Slovenia in eight friendly matches in preparation for the world championship.
Led by national coach Sabeur Abdulwahed said that Bahrain hopes to seal the victory on their opening match, which would boost their chances in the preliminary match.
