Manama : Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani hailed Bahrain’s achievements and record in respecting human rights, protecting human dignity and combating trafficking in persons.
He paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, hailing the royal approach which consolidated Bahrain’s standing regionally and internationally.
Dr. Al Zayani, who is also Head of the National Human Rights Comission, praised the policies of the Government, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister made the statement as Bahrain joins the other nations in marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which will be observed on July 30 under the theme “Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind”.
This is in accordance with the resolution A/RES/68/192 which was adopted by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2013, designating July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
Dr. Al Zayani noted Bahrain’s status as a model for respecting the rights and human dignity, in accordance with the Constitution, national legislations as well as international conventions and covenants, including seven of the nine main human rights instruments.
He expressed pride in Bahrain’s success in maintaining “Tier 1” status for the sixth consecutive year in the United States Department of State’s 2023 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, which is the highest annual international classification in this field.
This advanced status reflects Bahrain’s strides in protecting and promoting human rights under Law No. (1) of 2008 regarding combating trafficking in persons, and other legislative measures, in line with the Government programme and the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026).
He commended the efforts of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Persons, chaired by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, hailing the roled of the Minister of Labour, Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Chairman Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan and their contributions to raising awareness and enforcing the law.
Dr. Al Zayani also highlighted coordination with the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Ministry of Social Development, the Information Ministry, the Supreme Judicial Council and civil society.
