India reported 16,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest daily increase since the outbreak began, and the government called in the army to manage new treatment centres with thousands of additional hospital beds in New Delhi. Thailand plans to allow some foreign travellers into the country starting next week, as it eases restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, a senior official said on Wednesday. The first group of foreigners that have registered for 14-day state quarantine include those with work permits, investors and business executives, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration. The French government is sending medics and aid to the South American territory of French Guiana amid a surge in virus infections there. The French military has ferried patients from Guiana, which borders Brazil, to hospitals in the French Caribbean island of Martinique. Oman has registered 2 deaths and 1,142 new cases of coronavirus, most of the new cases are from citizens by 671 and the rest 471 from foreigners, taking the total cases to 33,536. Bahrain has announced the death of a 75-year-old male citizen from coronavirus, the total death toll reached 68. The MOH expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased. One Turkish soldier was killed and two others were wounded in southeast Turkey as they came under fire from the Iranian side of the border, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday in a statement that did not say who had shot at its soldiers.
