Bayer will pay up to $10.9 billion to settle litigation over the subsidiary Monsanto’s weedkiller Roundup, which has faced thousands of lawsuits over claims it causes cancer, the German-based company said Wednesday. Bayer said it was also paying up $1.22 billion to settle two additional areas of intense litigation, one involving PCB in water, and one involving dicamba, another weedkiller. The company said the Roundup settlement involves about 125,000 filed and unfiled claims. UAE records 450 cases, and 2 fatalities from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total cases in the country to 46,133, according to the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP). The new death takes the total fatalities to 307. ♦ China to run human coronavirus vaccine trial in UAE 702 new recoveries were also announced, bringing the total recoveries to 34,405. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom said on Wednesday he expected the number of novel coronavirus cases around the world, now at about 9.3 million, to reach 10 million next week. Apple Inc has acquired Fleetsmith, a San Francisco-based startup company whose technology helps businesses manage Apple’s Mac and iPad devices among their employee bases. ♦ Apple previews new iPhone software, changes to Mac chips The move is a push by Apple into the mobile device management industry, a category of business software dominated by players such as Microsoft Corp and VMware Inc. Saudi Arabia has reported 3,123 new cases and 41 deaths from coronavirus, taking the total cases to 167,267. The death toll raised to 1,387 after reporting the new deaths.
