Niamey : The General Directorate of Civil Protection in Niger announced that floods since the beginning of the 2025 rainy season have killed 47 people and displaced more than 56,000, with damages reported in 78 out of the country’s 265 municipalities. Authorities said relief teams have begun distributing food aid, mainly cereals, to those affected. Beijing : Twelve workers were killed and four others went missing on Friday after a bridge under construction collapsed in Qinghai Province, northwest China. The accident occurred in the early morning hours when a steel cable snapped, causing a large section of the structure to fall from a great height into the Yellow River. 15 workers and the project manager were on the site at the time. Washington : US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in Washington to discuss advancing their strategic alliance. The ministers highlighted the alliance as a cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific for more than seven decades. Tokyo : Japan will join a European project to observe the Apophis asteroid when it passes close to the Earth by providing the H3 rocket as a launch vehicle, a Japanese space agency official said on Friday. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will join the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Ramses mission to observe Apophis, which makes a close encounter with the Earth in 2029, JAXA Vice President Masaki Fujimoto said.
