Casablanca : Bahrain’s under-19 boys’ national team won the gold medal in the team event at the Arab Table Tennis Championship, held in Casablanca, Morocco. The team secured the title after defeating hosts Morocco 3–1 in the final, delivering a strong performance that earned them the gold medal. The Bahrain team was represented by Mohammed Nader Al Aali, Majid Naji and Yousif Hassan Aman. The players will be awarded their medals at the tournament’s closing ceremony.
Beijing, : Chinese lawmakers have adopted a new law to regulate research, development and the peaceful use of atomic energy. The legislation was passed during a session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The law consists of 62 articles and stipulates that China will fulfil its obligations under international treaties it has signed or joined. It also establishes a nuclear security system to strengthen safety in atomic energy research, development and use. Washington : Axel Van Trotsenburg, Managing Director at the World Bank, said the bank will allocate 70% of a $100 billion package, raised by one of its arms, to provide concessional financing for the world’s poorest countries, with Africa as the main beneficiary. Tokyo : United Airlines said on Friday that two people had sustained minor injuries after a flight heading from Tokyo to Cebu in the Philippines made an emergency landing over concerns of a potential fire in the cargo hold. United’s Flight 32, a Boeing 737-800 with 135 passengers and seven crew members onboard, was diverted to Kansai International Airport in Osaka after it took off from Narita Airport near Tokyo. Mexico City : A gas tanker truck exploded and burned multiple vehicles under a Mexico City highway overpass on Wednesday, killing three people and injuring 70 others, some with their entire bodies charred and others waiting for help in the road with burns and torn clothing.
