Manama : His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, received, at the Al-Wadi Palace today, Bahraini athletes who won medals at the 15th Arab Sports Games, hosted by Algeria, and the Special Olympics World Games 2023, held in Berlin, Germany.
His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, BOC Deputy President, Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa, Bahrain Paralympic Committee President, Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, GSA’s CEO, Fares Mustafa Al-Kooheji, BOC Secretary-General, and several sports federations’ presidents were present.
HH Shaikh Khalid praised the achievements of the Bahraini champions in the 15th Arab Games, where they attained the best result in the history of the Kingdom, citing their success in clinching 44 medals, including 20 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze.
His Highness also paid tribute to Bahraini Paralympic athletes for their outstanding accomplishments during the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 in which they bagged a total of 11 medals, including two gold, two silver and three bronze ones, commending the tremendous efforts exerted by the Bahrain Paralympic Committee to put in place all success requirements for Bahraini athletes.
The landmark achievements of Bahraini athletes at the two international sporting events reflects the steady progress of Bahraini sport thanks to the care of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as the interest of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, and SCYS Chairman, HH Shaikh Khalid said.
During the celebration, Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa delivered a speech in which he lauded the progress of the Paralympic sports during HM the King’s prosperous era, expressing pride in the success of Bahraini Paralympic athletes in winning 11 medals in the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, in addition to two gold medals and a silver one at the 15th Arab Games. He pledged that efforts would be doubled to bring about more achievements to the kingdom.
Then, BOC Secretary-General addressed the ceremony. He expressed pride in the outstanding achievements of Bahraini athletes at the Arab Games, expressing pride in the leadership’s constant support to Team Bahrain, adding that BOC, led by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, will continue attaining more successes during the upcoming competitions, including the 19th Asian Games, set to be hosted by China in September.
BOC Secretary-General presented HH Shaikh Khalid with a commemorative plaque of Bahraini medal winners at the 15th Arab Games.
