Manama : The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced that the ban on kingfish fishing in Bahrain’s territorial waters, as well as the display and sale of kingfish in markets and public places for marketing or commercial purposes, will be lifted on Friday, October 16, following the end of the designated ban period.
The council said the seasonal ban was imposed under Legislative Decree (20) of 2002 on the Regulation of Fishing, Exploitation and Protection of Marine Resources, and in implementation of the decisions adopted by the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee at its 23rd meeting, which outlined measures to protect kingfish stocks.
The council affirmed that the ban, which ran from August 15 to October 15 during the kingfish breeding season, aimed to increase fish stocks by regulating fishing activities, preventing the depletion of fishing grounds and maintaining ecological balance in marine life.
The SCE commended fishermen for their cooperation and sense of national responsibility throughout the ban period, urging everyone to comply with the applicable regulations and support efforts to conserve and ensure the sustainability of Bahrain’s national fish stocks.
