Manama : The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Directorate of Traffic will intensify field campaigns in the coming period, in coordination with police directorates across all governorates, to detect violations and dangerous practices involving electric bikes and scooters in breach of Decision (58) of 2026. Legal action will be taken against violators.
The General Directorate explained that regulations governing the use of electric scooters require them to be used only in designated areas, at a maximum speed of 25 km/h, without carrying an additional passenger or travelling against the flow of traffic. Riders must also wear helmets and comply with security and safety requirements. Children under the age of seven are prohibited from riding them unless under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian or designated caregiver.

The General Directorate highlighted parents’ responsibility to supervise their children and prevent them from using electric bikes and scooters in breach of the applicable regulations, given the risks this poses to their safety and that of others. Violations may also result in legal accountability, with penalties of up to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of BD500.
The General Directorate of Traffic urged electric bike and scooter riders to follow the instructions of traffic and police patrols and stop immediately when requested to do so. It stressed that ignoring these instructions constitutes a violation requiring legal action and poses a risk to their safety and that of others. It called on everyone to comply with traffic rules and regulations to help enhance public security and safety.
