Dubai : His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a law establishing the Dubai Longevity Authority (DLA), a new regulatory body that aims to position Dubai as a leading global hub for advanced sustainable healthcare and wellness in accordance with the highest recognised regulatory standards, while also attracting quality investments in this vital sector.
According to the law, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, will serve as President of DLA. Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), has been appointed Chairman of its Board of Directors, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
The establishment of DLA supports the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aim to position Dubai among the top three cities globally for quality of life and strengthen its leadership in healthy life expectancy indicators through the adoption of the latest innovations and enhanced governance.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid affirmed that the true wealth of nations lies in the health of their people, emphasising that Dubai’s vision is to be at the forefront of shaping the future of healthcare through the application of life sciences and biotechnology.
For his part, Helal Saeed Almarri said that the establishment of the authority reflects the leadership’s vision for shaping the future of healthcare. He noted that it will provide a comprehensive regulatory framework covering all stages of research and development and clinical trials through to the delivery of therapeutic services, contributing to the attraction of investment and the strengthening of the emirate’s industrial capabilities.
