New York : The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its concern regarding the recent military developments in southern Lebanon and the dangerous escalation in the region, which threatens Lebanon’s security and stability and portends a further deterioration in the humanitarian and security situation, potentially impacting regional security and stability.
Bahrain welcomed the announcement by HE US President Donald Trump of an agreement to cease hostilities on June 1, 2026, considering it a positive step towards de-escalation, a cessation of hostilities, and the strengthening of security and stability in Lebanon and the region.
This statement was delivered by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, during the Kingdom’s participation in the emergency session of the Security Council addressing the recent escalation in Lebanon.
In the context of efforts to prevent escalation, the Permanent Representative commended the tireless efforts of the United States of America in mediation and diplomatic endeavors aimed at stabilizing the situation and preventing the conflict from spreading. He affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for the negotiation process between the Lebanese Republic and the State of Israel, expressing its hope that this process will lead to tangible results that contribute to strengthening security and stability, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic, and consolidating the foundations of peace in the region.
The Permanent Representative also warned of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, noting that continued military escalation would exacerbate the suffering of civilians and the burdens faced by the Lebanese people, particularly in light of the existing economic and humanitarian challenges. This necessitates intensified international efforts to protect civilians and ensure the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid.
Ambassador Al Ruwaie reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic. He affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of any violation of Lebanese sovereignty, any threat to its security and stability, or any attempt to spread chaos and division. He also stressed the importance of respecting relevant Security Council resolutions and the need for concerted international efforts to halt military operations.
The Permanent Representative emphasized the importance of completing the process of strengthening Lebanese state institutions and enabling them to fully assume their sovereign and security responsibilities. He expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s welcome of the Lebanese government’s decision to restrict the possession of weapons to the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions, including ending all armed groups operating outside the framework of the state and disarming Hezbollah in accordance with Lebanese legal and constitutional frameworks.
Ambassador Al Ruwaie concluded by affirming the importance of the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and all relevant international resolutions, in order to ensure respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic and the arrangements for the cessation of hostilities, and the importance of continuing to support the Lebanese army and official security forces and enabling them to carry out their national responsibilities and extend the authority of the Lebanese state over all its territory, stressing that the stability and sovereignty of Lebanon represent a common regional and international interest.
