Manama : The General Sports Authority announced the launch of the Women’s Equal Opportunities League during a press conference held at Bahrain National Stadium, following the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, to support women’s participation in sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The league is organised through cooperation between the General Sports Authority, the equal opportunities committee in the sports sector, the Supreme Council for Women, the Ministry of Education, the Higher Education Council, and relevant sports federations.
The league will feature football, basketball, and volleyball competitions for participants aged over 15, with 18 teams taking part across the three sports.
Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Chief Executive Officer of the General Sports Authority, said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support women’s sports and provide a structured environment that encourages participation and development.
The conference also reviewed the league’s identity and logo, competition schedule, and the role of participating sports federations in supporting the initiative.
