New York : The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York sent identical letters to the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council. This marks the tenth letter in a series of official communications aimed at refuting Iranian allegations and claims.
The letter reaffirmed Bahrain’s categorical rejection of the claims contained in a letter submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN on 13 April 2026. It emphasised Bahrain’s full commitment, under all circumstances, to international law, while renewing its condemnation of Iran’s unjustified attacks against the Kingdom. The letter noted that Iran is once again attempting to distort facts already acknowledged by the Security Council by evading responsibility and shifting blame to other parties.
The letter also highlighted Iran’s threats to use force against the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which swiftly rejected such threats and called for de-escalation, reaffirming their firm commitment to regional and international peace and security.
The letter further stated that Iran has launched missiles and drones against the Kingdom since 28 February 2026, deliberately targeting civilians and civilian objects, including residential areas and vital infrastructure. It stressed that these attacks constitute a violation of Bahrain’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and represent a breach of the UN Charter, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution as reflected in the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols.
The letter referred to UN Security Council Resolution 2817, submitted by Bahrain, which explicitly condemned Iranian attacks on Bahrain and the Gulf states as violations of international law and called for their immediate cessation. It also referenced the Human Rights Council resolution adopted on 25 March 2026, which condemned Iran’s attacks, recognised their serious human rights consequences, and called on Iran to provide full, effective, and prompt compensation for all damage and harm sustained by Bahrain and GCC states.
In light of these clear UN resolutions, which Iran continues to disregard, the letter underscored that Iran’s attempt to claim compensation is without basis. It reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, while emphasising the Kingdom’s full and inherent right, individually and in coordination with its regional partners, to respond to Iran’s attacks in a manner proportionate to their nature and scale, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and within the framework of international law.
