Abu Dhabi : His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Dr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, attended the signing of an agreement to develop a railway network in Jordan and establish the UAE–Jordan Railway Company.
The agreement includes the construction and operation of a 360 kilometre railway linking the mining areas of Al Shidiya and Ghor Al Safi to the Port of Aqaba, with a capacity to transport 16 million tonnes annually of phosphate and potash, at an investment of US$2.3 billion.
The agreement was signed by Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, and Dr. Nidal Al Qatamin, Minister of Transport of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and provides for the establishment of the UAE–Jordan Railway Company as a joint venture between L’IMAD Holding Company and Jordanian partners.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed highlighted that the agreement supports bilateral cooperation and sustainable development, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to strengthening strategic relations.
Dr. Al Qatamin said the project will reduce transport costs, enhance competitiveness, and create employment opportunities.
The agreement builds on the investment agreement signed at the end of 2023 and supports economic development, drawing on the expertise of Etihad Rail.
Prior to the signing, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed and Dr. Jafar Hassan held talks to review relations and discuss ways to enhance cooperation.
