Manama : General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, chaired the Council’s meeting.
Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy; Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications; Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture; Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment; Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs; Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health; Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development; Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Noaimi, Minister of Information; and Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, were present.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah noted that the meeting came as part of the work to strengthen civil protection measures and public safety.
The Council reviewed the latest developments in the Wireless Alerts for Early Emergency Warning project. This review procedures, scenarios, the roles of government bodies, and strategic pillars of emergency preparedness and response, foremost among them national readiness and enhanced integration across relevant sectors, all aimed at ensuring public safety.
The project provides essential information to citizens and residents before, during, and after emergencies, representing a significant leap forward in emergency warning and public communication. It also guarantees that all citizens and residents receive emergency alerts within a record time.
The Council also reviewed all procedures and implementation work necessary in preparation for activating the service in the upcoming period, following the completion of infrastructure and operational requirements.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah emphasised the importance of trial operation of the system in phases and defining the emergency areas in which it should operate. He noted that the Wireless Alerts for Early Emergency Warning project is part of the government work and performance framework, adopting the best international practices in civil protection and emergency management. It reflects the continuous commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and residents, and developing a digital infrastructure capable of handling various emergency scenarios.
The Minister of Interior added that the development of early warning systems and ensuring the delivery of alerts to all segments of society through multiple means is part of comprehensive community awareness programmes, providing updated risk data, and facilitating information exchange between relevant authorities.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah thanked the Council members for their role in developing coordination mechanisms, enhancing preventive measures in civil protection, monitoring preparedness and readiness to face potential risks, and increasing safety levels for all citizens and residents.
