Japanese authorities intend to honor the citizens who died due to the strong earthquake that hit the country and resulted in tsunami, which in turn caused the worst nuclear disaster in Japan. The central and local governments have cancelled the anniversaries, since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called to cancel large gatherings in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
President Abe will perform a silent prayer at his office at the same time that the 9-magnitude earthquake struck in northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011.
The double natural disaster caused the death or loss of around 18,400 people, and led to a triple fusion at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station located 240 kilometres northeast of Tokyo.
