Manama The “HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Endurance Championship” kicked off today at the Bahrain Endurance Village.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, the two-day championship is organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF).
Up to 215 male and female jockeys participated in the international and qualifying races for 120 km and 100 km, as well as a 100-km local race, in addition to local qualifiers for 40 km and 80 km.
Team Victorious dominated the international 120-km race, as riders Mohammed Khalid Al Ruwaie, Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and Manal Majeed Fakhrawi clinched the first, second and third places, respectively.
The same team also topped the 100-km race, following the success of its jockeys Isa Hameed Al Anzi, Yousif Abdulnabi Al-Jubouri and Mohammed Abdulla Al Eid in securing the first three places.
Regarding the 100-km local race, jockeys Rashid Khalid Raed, from KHK team, Khalid Raed Abdulrahman, from RM Stable, and Faisal Hassan Al Noaimi, from Al Ittihad Stable, were first, second and third.
Riders Zainab Abdulrazaq Abdulla, from Al Shawamekh Stable, Dana Hassan Sultani, from the same stable, and Jassim Khalid Rashid, from Team Victorious, topped the 80-km local qualifying race.
Meanwhile, Talal Rashid Al Dossari and Nayef Adel Jaffar, from Al Eid Stable, and Farouq Khalid, from the Al Salam Horse Riding School, clinched the first three places of the 40-km local qualifying race.
Bahrain Endurance Village will host the private stables’ race for 120 km over HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s Cup.
The prestigious race is expected to witness fierce competition among the jockeys representing various stables.
